It's a vicious circle

 5 Things I learned today:

1) Kettlebell swings are a great exercise for activating your glutes.  Squeeze them hard at the top of the swing

2) Nothing makes me angrier than traffic on the freeway at 1 AM.  Its always the little things.

3) There is absolutely no substitution for hard work; no special program, no “wonder” drug or supplement, no revolutionary training method, no shortcut or little cheat.  Determination and mental fortitude applied to any type of training will produce the most satisfying results; physically and emotionally.  Hence…#4

4) One of the highest complements that I could receive is “you work really hard”.

5) Number three and four can be applied to anything.  Moral of the story: work tirelessly and be passionate if you want to be good at what you do.

5 things I learned today:

1) The theory of compensatory acceleration: the body recruits more muscle fibers when you attempt to move the weight as fast as possible, thus increasing explosive strength.  Example: During a barbell squat, lowering the weight slowly then pushing it up as quickly as possible.

2) Post activation potential: the ability of the muscle to perform explosive contractions is increased after that muscle is forced to lift a near maximal contraction.  Example:

3) Performing a high-intensity, short-duration workout with compound exercises causes your resting metabolism to be raised for 38 hours after the workout.  Running for ridiculous times and distances is not the only way to get lean and muscular.

4) Summer isnt how it used to be: less sleep, less money, less time, more patience, more knowledge, more determination, more anticipation.  Did it, love it, keep it going.

5) Fitness equipment is grossly overpriced.  $89 for a 20 lb. medicine ball, $200 for a heavy weight vest and $120 for a 24kg kettlebell?  Are you friggin kidding me!? I think Ill stick to stealing all my fitness equipment from mega gyms.

5 Things I Learned Today:

1) Playing on turf is rough on your knees and ankles. Rest and Ice, you are my bitch lovers.

2) I would rather practice goalkeeper distribution for 20 minutes, 3 times a week than for an hour and a half straight, once a week.  Which is what I did today (wasted practice if you ask me).

3) If you are sore or feeling beat a 15 min flush and stretch in a cold pool is the business…the big business http://stereogum.com/714732/big-business-always-never-know-when-to-quit-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/#comments

4) Soccer camps teach me patience and appreciation for both children and the game.  Which leads to the final lesson I learned today…

5) God is good (already knew this it’s just confirmed every day)

5 Things I Need To Do Tomorrow:

1) Upper body lift

2) More soccer camp yaaaaaaay

3) Go to lunch with my lovely lady

4) Finish presentation as well as put together a core conditioning program for one of my clients.  Suitcase deadlifts? Yes I think so…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrDinoZ226k

5) Call my mother and see how she liked her birthday gift

1 Bad Ass Thing I Saw Today:

A six year old girl take a punted soccer ball to the cranium nearly causing her to backflip…she cried for a quick second than continued her soccer journey. Bad…assssssss

1 Thing I Love:

Writing down my daily thoughts so my head is clear…which is exhilarating because nobody reads this garbage anyways ha

5 Things I Learned Today:

1) Kettlebells are a man’s tool: try overhead farmers carry for 4x40 yds and turkish get-ups for 3x6 reps

2) The benefits of unilateral leg exercises as a supplement to primary leg lifts are astounding.  Improved balance and proprioception, strengthening of the posterior chain (glutes and hams), prevention of strength imbalances between legs, oh my.  Ill be dreaming about reverse lunges, bulgarians, and pistol squats tonight.

3) Both the Punisher and Bear Grylls are equally gnarly (even though some of the shit that Grylls does is staged)

4) Tight hip flexors, adductors, pecs, and thoracic extensors are a pain in the balls.  Thank you Eric Cressey and Jeff Teach for showing me the path to being decently flexible.

5) Three hours of coaching 8 yr. olds is more exhausting than heavy legs monday.

5 Things I Need to Do Tomorrow:

1) Contact my people so we can road trip up to Rob’s wedding

2) Finish presentation on upper cross syndrome

3) Play some soccer/coach some soccer

4) Call my beautiful mother for her birthday

5) SAQ training…Trying out the new octagon agility drill (goalkeeper specific)
